Record the rider on a stationary trainer or in another safe, repeatable setting. Use a stable side view for trunk, hip, knee, and ankle relationships and a rear view for knee tracking and pelvic motion. Record resistance, cadence, effort, shoes/cleats, saddle and handlebar settings, and whether the athlete is fresh or fatigued.
The analysis can help describe joint position through the pedal cycle, posture, reach, knee path, pelvic stability, and left/right visual differences. Two-dimensional video cannot measure forces, internal joint loading, or the cause of pain.
Change only one variable at a time. A coaching decision may involve posture, cadence, movement awareness, or referral to a qualified bike fitter. Avoid large equipment changes from one clip. Check whether a visible pattern persists across multiple cycles and workloads.
0–15 minutes — Frame the question. Choose comfort, efficiency, knee path, posture, or fatigue-related mechanics. Obtain authorization and record symptoms only if the athlete volunteers them.
15–30 minutes — Standardized capture. Record 20–30 seconds from the side and rear at a steady workload. Document bike settings and cadence.
30–55 minutes — Analyze. Identify one stable pattern, one workload-dependent change, and one limitation. Compare at least five pedal cycles rather than one frame.
55–75 minutes — Intervention. Select one low-risk cue or small reversible setup experiment. Do not change multiple fit dimensions together.
75–105 minutes — Retest and discuss. Repeat the same workload and camera angles. Ask about comfort, control, and whether the change is sustainable.
